Soundarya Raghu was an Indian actress as well as a producer who was best known for her works in Telegu cinema. She also acted in Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Bollywood films. She received two Karnataka State film awards for Best actress, several Filmfare Awards South, Nandi Awards and the National Film Award for Best Feature Film as a producer for the film, Dweepa. Soundarya died in an aircraft crash.
Soundarya, was the daughter of an industrialist and Kannada film writer K. S. Satyanarayan. She did not complete her M.B.B.S and married to G. S. Raghu, a Software Engineer.
Soundarya was a versatile actress and was quite prominent actress during the late 1990s. She gained immense popularity because of her performance oriented roles. Her first hit film was "Rajendrudu Gajendrudu" but she got real recognition came with “Hello Brother” in 1994. Her other movies include “Pedarayudu”, awar-wining movie “Ammoru”. She became the number one actress of Telegu cinema with her straong and intense performances. Films like “Pelli chesukundam, Maa Aayana Bangaram, Osi na maradala, and Aaro pranam” received great response not only from the audience but also good critical acclamation. She never looked back after that. Her phenomenal acting skills made her the first choice for any out of the box role. She almost did 10 films each year till 2001. She worked with Kamal Hassan in a Tamil film, “Kaathala Kaathala”. She acted in “Padayappa” with Rajinikanth, worked opposite Nagarjuna in “Azad”, and she also acted in “Suryavansham” opposite Amitabh Bachchan.
Politics and Sudden Death
Soundarya had an accidental death when she was on her way to campaign for the Bharatiya Janta Party and Telegu Desam Party for the elections.
